Hi! I’m Ruby

🌪️ My Journey (A Bit Like Dorothy’s)

I’ve worked in bookkeeping for a long time — honestly, most of my life.
It all started back in high school when I did the books for my dad’s business and another client. After graduation, I worked filing paperwork at Zurich Insurance (back when we actually filed things in cabinets!).

Then I decided to go to school for food service — funny enough, it was still all about numbers. Measuring, counting, portioning and pricing. The  numbers everywhere.

When my first daughter was born, I wanted to be home with my family, so I started a sewing business. Later, I ran a cleaning business too, until my body said “no more.” I got sick in my last pregnancy, and cleaning just wasn’t possible anymore.

For a few years, I switched to sales. Then, when my youngest son started school, I went back to cleaning part-time — and one of the accountants I cleaned for asked if I’d ever consider going back into bookkeeping. That was over 22 years ago, and here I am — still at it.

I’ve spent many years behind the scenes, quietly keeping the books balanced for others. Our team works virtually now — we connect on Zoom, ask questions, and share ideas. But often, we see messy books that come to us needing repair. It can be painful to tell a new client, “I know you already paid someone to do this… but we have to fix it.” The good news? We can fix it. We can make it clear, organized, and beautiful again.

That’s the part I love — the clarity. Bookkeeping isn’t magic; it’s just about following simple steps consistently. Once you have the receipts, the statements, the right information — the answers are right there.

But over the years, I’ve seen too many people taken advantage of. It hurts to see someone pay twice for the same work or feel lost and embarrassed about their books. That sense of injustice is what lights a fire in me. I’ve often thought, “This stuff isn’t that hard — people just need to be shown how.”

That’s when I realized my calling wasn’t just to do bookkeeping, but to teach it — to help others understand their own numbers so no one can take advantage of them again.

👠 The Journey Home

I often see myself as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz — walking along the yellow brick road, meeting others who are searching too.

Like Dorothy, I’ve faced obstacles, confusion, and moments of doubt. I’ve had to remind myself that I don’t need to have all the answers — I just need the courage to keep going, the heart to care deeply, and the brains to keep learning.

Along the journey, I’ve met others who want the same thing: freedom.
Not just financial freedom — but that deep sense of peace and confidence that feels like home.

Money and bookkeeping can seem big and scary — like the Wizard behind the curtain. But once you pull that curtain back, it’s not so intimidating. It’s actually simple, once you know the steps. I believe part of my purpose is to help others see that too — to take the mystery out of money and make it make sense again.

There will always be distractions — the “wicked witches” that pop up in life, throwing us off course. But like Dorothy, we can face them, thank them for what they taught us, and move forward.
And just like Dorothy’s ruby slippers, we’ve had the power all along. We just need to believe it and tap into it — that inner knowing that can lead us home.

đź’Ž Finding My Own Diamonds

One of my favorite books is Acres of Diamonds. It reminds me that we already have everything we need — right where we are.

I’ve spent years chasing shiny ideas, trying to copy what worked for others, and every time I did, I’d lose my footing. I’d get off track, confused, and drained. And every single time, I found myself coming back to bookkeeping. It’s my solid ground. It’s where I can use both my logic and my creativity.

I may not have it all figured out — I still wobble, I still get pulled off course by life, family, or “shiny object syndrome.” But I’ve learned to find peace in imperfection. I’ve built systems that aren’t perfect, but they give me calm. And through it all, I’m still learning, still walking my yellow brick road — as a mom, a grandma, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a teacher.

I’m not a financial guru. I’m just someone who’s walked this road long enough to have learned a few things — and I want to share them.
I want to walk with others who are figuring it out too — helping them find their courage, their heart, their clarity, and their freedom.

Because in the end, we already have what it takes.
We just need to believe it — and maybe, tap our heels together three times to remember there’s no place like home.
